Hollow part 68

Are you really think that you are a master of your fate? What would you say, if I told you that you were wrong.

Akim, no longer young, but still good looking, rich man bought a new technology (machine that can cut many trees). He didn’t know that this simple decision not only will have an impact on his own life, but also change life of many others. There is also a girl. The girl, who want to discover who she really is and what is her role in this mess.

The train was pulling into the station. Aaron stood on the platform watching getting out passengers, when suddenly in train door appeared  a plump woman.  Her face was covered by a dark hat with a veil and light hair was smoothly combed in the knot in the back of the head. She was wearing a pink costume and held white poodle in her arms .

“Mrs. Aubergine.”Aaron said, approaching her.

“Here I am.” She said, raising her hand to his lips for kiss.

The door to the room opened.

“Eidel.” Mrs. Aubergine said, walking up to the young woman standing by the fireplace. “I came as soon as I could.

“Thank you, Aunt.”

Mrs. Aubergine took her hand and squeezed it tight, staring at her tired face.

“Dear child, what caused you to take your life? Such dose of Veronal*… It’s a miracle that you lived. “

“Aunt came so far just only to tell me this?”

“That I’m silly.”

Aunt laughed and touched her cheek, brushing away curl of dark hair.

“Eidel, do not fool around. You are so beautiful. Do not bother your pretty head with such ridiculous.”

“Ridiculous?” She repeated, swallowing saliva. “Aunt think that my feelings are ridiculous?”

“No, of course not.”

“My husband … “ She said, feeling that her mouth trembled. “He hates me.”

“What are you talking about?! It’s not true. He cares about you.”

“Just us much as he cares of factory and servants.”

Aunt took a breath.

“Eidel I understand your bitterness. He is a lot older than you, but instead worry about it, maybe you should use it as your asset. Moreover, what kind of man would not be proud of a wife like you? Young, beautiful wife.”

“You speak nonsense. Of course he is.”

“No he isn’t and my recent attempt has further deepened gulf between us. He moved to another bedroom, I see him seldom, and our meetings reduced to formal talk…”

“It will pass.”

“No.” She said, shaking her head. “It will never pass. “

“He still loves her …” She whispered, staring vacantly into space.

“His ex-wife.” She answered, turning to her.

“It’s ancient history, Eidel. There is nothing to think about.”

“It’s not true. It’s still close to my heart.”

“And you Eidel? I have to remind you of young Linton?”

“I hated him.”

“You flirted with him!”

“He talked badly about my husband. I had to punish him.”

“Blackening your name? You have been on everyone’s lips.”

“I don’t care about my reputation.”

“But I care! If you don’t care what others say, think of me. Think how I feel when I hear how bad you conduct yourself. Think about your husband. Think about shame you bring to our family.”

“It’s my problem.”

“It’s not! It’s our problem. Whole family.”

“Family…This is awful… This life. I feel like a prisoner. “

“Don’t be ungrateful, Eidel. “ Said aunt coolly, but Eidel didn’t listen her.

“Is it a sin? Is it a sin that I love? I love him, I love him so much. He is my whole world.”

“If you love him, grow up.”

“I can not live like that. I hate my life.”

“How you can say that?! Many would give everything to be in your place.”

“And I would give everything for a little bit of love.”

“Love is for the poor.”

“No, love is for people.”

“Sure you feel good Eidel? You are terribly pale.” Maybe, I’ll call …”

“No! Let’s have some tea.” Eidel said, approaching the table, where stood china service. She leaned forward and lifted the kettle up, filling the cup with brown liquid, when suddenly cup tilted and content spilled on Aunt.

“You horrible girl!” Aunt shouted. “It would have been better if you had died!”

“Good!” Eidel shouted through tears. “I want to die! Maybe if I died you would appreciate what you missed. Maybe my husband will finally understand what he loosed.”

Aaron sat at the table, staring at the plate in front of him, when suddenly he heard the sound of the door open, and turned away, taking a fake smile.

“I am leaving!” Said Mrs. Aubergine, coming to the room.

“What?” He asked, and the smile went from his face. “Why are you leaving? You just arrived.”

“I will not stay in this house any longer! Come to me Sisi.” She said to poodle.

Aron eyes focused on the brown stain and clenched his teeth in anger.

This woman…

“You can not go away like that.” He said, raising his head.

“Just that I can.”

“You can not!”

“And why on earth would I listen to you?!”

“And what I tell to Akim?”

“You will tell him that I have been called into important duties.”

“No.” He said. “You will stay here.”

“How are you trying to force me to do it?”

I can not force you to do it, but I hope I can affect your decision.”

“I have to disappoint you because I do not belong to people who easily change their minds. My decision is final and it’s not up for discussion.”

“She is your niece!”

“She isn’t my family! Right now, she is a shadow of that woman, whom my brother married!”

“How can you?”

“How dare you lecture me, Mister?!” Who are you that dares speak in such tone to me?!”

“You are right, maybe I can not match you state, but I know that family is the greatest good.”

Aunt snorted.

“What about you? What does lonely man know about family?”

“Not much, but I was taught that in life there is nothing’s more important than family.”

“And you tell me this? A man who would sell his own mother for two cents. You are pathetic. Really pathetic.”

“Please, leave my mother out of this. She isn’t to blame.”

“If you do not want to hear what I’m saying right now, please take me to the station as soon as possible.”

“All right.” He said raspy. And Please know that I’ll do it with pleasure. He added in his mind.

* She overdosed on sleeping pills.
